What’s on My Dashboard?

I’d been shoving a number of Philippine stuff ideas to the back burner due to my mounting fascination about my dashboard [b]links waiting for me to check out (of course that includes my wandering spree when I get stuck). The newest was the ‘meevee.com’ which took me to the Julie Andrews blog items. Outside my dashboard, I can only go through their homepage and have to sift through the Miley Cirus hullabaloo stunts that lead me to China Disney billboard, yada…yada…yada! So many sidetrips again so early in the morning.

Thanks for my morning caffeine I remembered to do the in-site search ‘Julie Andrews the sound of aging gracefully’ and voila! There it is @ News & Gossipsjust my post! That’s all I wanted to see…thanks!

This 2nd gem is from American Lola on the medical emergencies in the Philippines. She’s one of the very insightful foreigners living in the country. The Live in the Philippines website by Bob Martin is one of my favorite places to visit.

This is COXyour friend in the digital world–[their by-line] as this is really [like] an electronic white page. Maybe, I’ll use it one day.

There are a couple of social networking sites that found me (I think I’ll check out Squiddo at some point). And, a few I found along the way. Right now, I’m at the crossroad of joining HubPages. I got stuck somewhere on step 3 where I have to type my actual post. I didn’t know where to go after typing my supposed title. I went round and round the site, found some nuggets of thoughts along the way, and went back for more until I decided I’m losing focus again…so, I thought I’ll share some today.

* This is from a guy who brought his Russian fiancee to the U.S. and chronicled the saga here:

* This one is from Lissie, a familiar face @ Kirsty’s blog (one of the very first I was following when I just got started), and I’ve heard HubPages then but I was still barely understanding WordPress (crawling stage)–now at least I can make a couple of baby steps and I’ve fallen at the pit. When I finally make heads or tails as to where to start writing @ HP, I hope I’d be able to follow her wonderful design steps here:

*Next time…more on uplifting posts about making money on line that maybe I’ll keep trying how to make HubPages work as it could be one of those sites you can make a few pennies/dollars depending on how hard you work. These pennies could still go a longer way in the Philippines.

Password to Modern Civilization

Oh…civilization, what thoust bring to the world? Paper trails of human foibles, for isn’t it a folly to want all the [un]necessary trappings of life? Even the trappings of success are really just traps that keep one from enjoying the basic necessities of living life to the fullest. How many things does one need to survive? …to love? …to hope? …to whatever? Whatever! Teen-agers discovered how to sum up life all in one word. Why can’t we?

What’s in your desk drawer? …in your filing cabinet? …in your computer? Hhmm–‘to do’ lists, bills, records, etc…. Oh, you are organized! In this modern civilization of this day and age, daily headaches would consist of soaring gas prices, doubling effect on groceries, and the rest of you can go on from there. Then it gets harder month-to-month: car payments (Volvo? Mercedes? Lexus?), house mortgage (Beverly Hills? Newport Beach?)–the ultimate [American] dream. What about your cell phone? What else did you say you have…ipod, blueberry, wii, xbox? I won’t dare go on, or my ignorance might betray me.

Life in a filing cabinet…this is just the beginning of modern civilization. Lucky are those computer savvy nomads [or not] with the password at their fingertips. For the uncivilized ones like me…even my husband, what is life like? The password curse is back! I finally convinced him to continue being Mr. Drumblogger (grudgingly, he seemed to be willing; let’s just say I cast that persuasive woman’s spell for now). Ohhh…now, we need the password. That was November then…sure we have some kind of record printed. Somewhere. Hhmmm…I thought it was in this filing cabinet. Do I have to hunt it amongst this ebay receipts? Five months ago, I remembered putting 1 computer stuff file folder right in front of all the other ones for accessibility purposes. Look what 5 months can do! Let’s backtrack…what was your ebay password then? How about your computer password? Nope! Some would know the rest of the story.

I start feeliiiing it in veins…patience, I envoke. Now, let’s try the easy way out–hit that forget-your-password button. See…it’s being sent to your email. Check your email–ooops, not in the Yahoo one; not in the Hotmail, either…then what now? Did you make a Gmail one for the blog? Yeaaaaaaah…that was 5 months ago, too. Which means–with the temporarily misplaced records–the reason why we’re having this problem in the first place. OK…another moment in time lost! I guess I’ll have to wait for another serendipity moment on this one.

Civilization goes with information explosion…always a mind-numbing experience, at least to me. Technology moves at a rapid speed; I can’t comprehend how some humans could make it so…indeed, ‘humans are still smarter than computers’ remains my contention. It’s just the rest of humanity that is sometimes left behind. I am left behind…or should I include my husband? This business of existence is really taking a toll on our retirable minds. This is when computer is better [not smarter] at remembering things.

I can only dream of what my life was in the Philippines. As a carefree uncivilized kid in one remote farm in the Philippines half a century ago, I had nature as my playground. I didn’t have to go any farther for playmates; I had my siblings and cousins. For some reason, everyone was somehow related to one another: first cousins, second cousins, third or maybe even fourth. Toys? Aaahh…you mean those leaves and twigs and branches and even trees to climb for fruits when you get hungry? Nature has endless possibilities…no need to worry about lead in products, that translates to testing kits…to lawsuits and what nots. The records we kept were in our hearts! The only password we needed was LOVE4EVER…hard to forget–even when the memory starts to fade.

One H*ck of a Bloggy Day!

Do I really want to be a blogger? I have already put in my 8-hour shift, and I have to start this post again? If I don’t though, I won’t have a good night rest. Should I count my part-time morning stint for my husband: packing and mailing drum parts? On the way home, I had a little ‘Target’ shopping break just to pick up a few things to replenish our refrigerator supply–not to forget a quick check of the 60%-70% clearance sections.

Noon came and no calls had come in yet. Exceptional Saturday–no one remembered us–not even my Filipino phone telemarketers. Nope! I’m not being redundant…my name is floating in 5 phone companies and 10 agents hunting for me, to say the least. There are times when I feel they sign in with my Phone #, and even when I have said ‘no’ will sign out with my # just in case I changed my mind. ??? Freaky…I was typing the# and my phone actually rang once…then stopped as I was getting ready to pick it up.

Within the past 8 hours…so many things encountered; so little time to learn! How many times have I tried to get away from this computer? Let me count the ways…ice cream break, coffee break, maybe I’ll get to dinner break later. I still have so many questions unanswered:

1. Why is www.flyhotel.net persistent in scraping blogs? He has no more ads. –I know I should really learn to use that Feed Footer plugin (yes, Mixxy, and I still don’t know how to link to your site). At 6pm today I saw my Survivor Philippines, Reality post there (4:27pm), even before my edit  to add there really was Turtle Island, Philippines — http://philecotourism.wordpress.com/2008/04/02/my-turtle-island-birthday-prayer/ . Serendipity is getting to be a part of my life! I was just cheking my blog at WP and there below it was this one–like an answer to a prayer. I guess flyhotel has its own purpose for being, too. Come to think of it, it skipped 3 of my posts between Dancing… and Survivor…! That’s why I just keep blogging ‘whatever’ though I can’t complain when Cheryl Burke’s another website: http://cherylburke.net/ [that I didn’t even know] unexpectedly brought in some traffic.

2. What do I know about ZenZuu? How did it come in? I know maybe one day I could monetize my blog ‘when it grows up’ but …not sure about this. I have many social networking sites that are parked in my email I didn’t know what to do with them. [The only My Space I want is My Fairview]. I even went to Mr. Google but ?????!

3. Did Squidoo visit me? [I even have a hard time with my contact lens]. Though it has that charity thing to choose from, obviously–my charity is….Well, I’ll probably go back to the site one day when my brain is not so fuzzy anymore.

4. How do I keep up with these barrage of information? I haven’t even mastered my dashboard yet, and was it just yesterday that WP changed the layout? Thank goodness…I was amaze with myself that I was able to upload the pictures for Survivor Philippines post. [Actually it seems easier once I found it.] My dashbord is evolving to be an amazing source of my amusement…pathetic, huh? At 10:30, I really need that dinner!

5. How many more unanswered ?????????????! I can’t count them all.

Digital is my Second Language

I am just thinking through my mouse…mouse musings? I thought English is my Second Language; then Digital is my Third Language (DTL). I like DSL…it gives me the feeling of ‘speed’ although in reality it’s far from that.

Just as I was starting to have some familiarity with my dashboard, I’m now back to square 1. Now it really looks different. Do you realize how irritating it is to look for the Edit button after you hit Publish? When I finally found it, my head was ready to explode…my eyes, oh I can go on whining! Hitting the tags won’t take me to WP anymore; it takes be back to my post. I miss watching my ‘coconut’ float somewhere at WP.

My energy is zapped; how can I ever get to learning Feed Footer, etc…? My tired ESL brain was initially defaulting to [Foot Feeder]. I’d better give my mouse a rest. My cross-wired brain is turning weird now or maybe I’m getting cross-eyed…what’s the difference? If my brain turns out to be brian, should I blame my fingers or my brain? Maybe, Brian? An error is an error…is an error…! Stop!
